Before installing BusinessObjects Enterprise the following items should be considered in to prepare the environment for installation:
Review the Platforms.txt file
• The platforms.txt file describes the platforms supported by BusinessObjects. It details specific languages,
operating systems, hardware requirements, as well as server and service compatibility.
• You can find the platforms.txt file in the root directory of the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI installation
disk, as well as on the BusinessObjects support web site, http://support.businessobjects.com.
• Ensure that your platform and necessary components are supported.
Network configuration:
• Each BusinessObjects Enterprise server must be configured to communicate over TCP/IP to provide
connectivity to the CMS and other BusinessObjects Enterprise servers.
• Using the PING utility, verify connectivity to the CMS using the NetBIOS name of the CMS.
• Verify the web server has connectivity with the Web Application Server. To verify connectivity, use the
PING utility using the NetBIOS name of the Web Application Server. • All InfoView clients must be able to access the web server.

Administrative privileges
• You must be logged on as a user with administrative privileges to the computer on which you are
installing BusinessObjects Enterprise. Administrative privileges usually include the ability to write to the Windows Registry, which is required for installation.
ODBC configuration
• If you are using SQL Server for your CMS database, correct ODBC configuration is required;
native connections to SQL Server are not supported.
• Verify the server is running version 3.x or newer of the Microsoft Data Access Components
(MDAC).
Microsoft Corporation provides a utility for testing your version of MDAC, called the Component Checker. Visit the Microsoft Corporation web site for more information. Before beginning installation, ensure you have the password for the SQL Server sa account or a user name and password for an administrative level database account. Virtual memory
• For best performance, Microsoft Corporation recommends that you do not set the initial size to less
than the minimum recommended size under Total paging file size for all drives. The recommended size is equivalent to 1.5 times the amount of RAM on your system. It is best to leave the paging file at its recommended size, although you could increase its size if you routinely use programs that require a lot of memory.
Background services priority
• Your Windows server should have Performance Options configured to give Background services
priority on your system.

Web Server\\Web Application Server
• Ensure there is connectivity between the InfoView clients and the web server. The web server
forwards the enterprise request to the Web Application Server. Refer to platforms.txt for a list of supported web servers.
• For a Java or .NET environment, install the appropriate SDK and Web Component Adapter on the
Web Application Server.
Web browser
• These should be installed and configured on all desktop clients’ machines.
Database
• BusinessObjects Enterprise requires a system database to store information about the server
components and objects specific to your BusinessObjects Enterprise deployment.
The Setup program can install its own MySQL database by default.
TEMP directory environment variables
• The TEMP directory should reside on the drive with the most available space to allow for the
BusinessObjects Enterprise installation to store temporary files. A minimum of 700 MB of free space is recommended. The location of the TEMP directory is configured using Windows Environment Variables. By default, the TEMP directory for Windows 2000 is located on C:\\Windows\\TEMP.
Printer driver
• The Print Engine (CRPE) requires a printer driver be installed to provide support for background
formatting. Ensure a printer is installed on your BusinessObjects Enterprise server.
If you are distributing your installation across multiple computers, ensure that a printer driver is installed on the Crystal Reports Job Server, Report Application Server, and Crystal Reports Page Server machines.
web server\\WAS

打印工程(CRPE)需要安装打印机,提供一个后台格式支持。确信打印机安装在你的BOEserver上。如果你要分散在多个交叉机器上安装,确信打印驱动安装在Crystal Job Server,Report Application Server 和Crystal Reports Server机器上。
Before you begin installing BusinessObjects Enterprise, determine what type of installation will suit your needs. You can select between the following installation types: • New
Perform a new installation when you want all BusinessObjects Enterprise components to be installed on a single machine that is already running web services. • Expanded
Once BusinessObjects Enterprise is up and running, an expanded installation allows you to add server components, such as CMS, to other servers in your environment to distribute processing workload.
Systems can be scaled to handle increased usage or to add fault tolerance. Adding servers is called scaling horizontally, while adding processors to a machine is called scaling vertically. In a horizontally-scaled system, BusinessObjects Enterprise components are installed on multiple machines. In a verticallyscaled system, multiple BusinessObjects Enterprise server components can run on the same machine. Note that a single server, vertically- scaled system improves BusinessObjects Enterprise’s ability to handle increased usage, but does not increase the fault tolerance of the system.
Custom
Performing a custom installation allows you to select exactly which components will be installed. • Silent installation
For experienced administrators, the silent installation allows you to install from the command line. It is recommended that you run this installation when you need to install quickly on multiple machines. You can also incorporate the silent installation command into your own build scripts.

Once you have installed the BusinessObjects Enterprise system, you should verify that its components are installed successfully. Checking these components will help you troubleshoot any issues that may occur during the installation process.
Confirm the installation was successful by verifying whether you are able to: • open the Admin LaunchPad
• log onto the CMS and open the Central Management Console • view a Crystal report and Web Intelligence document on demand • schedule a Crystal report and view the scheduled instance
