摘要: A beam of light, usually a coherent light of 780 nm produced by a laser diode isfocused on a code wheel preferably by an optical lens with wide-angle index gradient of anumerical aperture of 0.46 and a diameter of 1.8 mm, in a limited spot by diffraction of anapproximate diameter of 0.039 to 0.3 mil. encoding the wheel is usually a reticular radialdiffraction grating reproduced by photoengraving on a MylarR plastic on which arearranged rows of 0.00025 '' wide at half a diameter of 1 ''. The focused light beamintercepts the code wheel in this half-diameter of 1 '' and is alternately transmitted andhidden by the reticular diffraction grating of the code wheel which rotates. The beam oflight selectively transmitted is received at a detector, usually a phototransistor. One candetect a number of transitions per turn higher encoding wheel to 10,000.
